Hybrids and other green cars to cost less in Costa Rica from April

Sharp reductions in the prices of cars using environment-friendly technology are expected in Costa Rica from next month.

The Traffic Law that comes into force in April includes a full waiver of the Selective Consumption Tax on such vehicles.

However, the ministry of the environment, energy and telecommunications has still to define exactly which vehicles that are available in the Costa Rican market are sufficiently green to qualify for the benefit.
